The talk by Han, followed by a lively question and answer period, was the second for the newly created science caf. The caf meets on the first Tuesday of every month to hear from professionals in the various scientific disciplines found in North Alabama.

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama Doctors are probably asking the wrong question when they wonder "what caused your disease," human genetics researcher and entrepreneur Dr. Jian Han said here Tuesday night. According to Han, a better question might be, "What is your immune system doing today?"
Mechanics do a better job diagnosing our cars, Han said, because they "have the blueprint. In the human body there is no blueprint." The fast developing science of DNA analysis is drawing that blueprint, Han said, but with so much DNA in the body, so many variations from person to person, and so many interactions between DNA and the environment over a lifetime, "The question is what to sequence" for study.
For Han, a medical doctor as well as a scientist, the answer is to sequence and study the DNA in the human immune system. "It is the best doctor to learn from," he said, "because it is doing diagnosis every day."

Han's said his research and data analysis show that "diseased patients have lost diversity in the T cells" within the immune system that fight disease. Someone with normal immune system T cell diversity, he said, is better able to fight off even cancer. Someone with New Balance All Black 574
Han believes diseases like cancer may ultimately be fought by "rebooting the immune system, not just killing" a wide variety of cells through radiation, chemotherapy and other traditional methods.
